今日議程(2009.12.23.):
1. Key concepts in adapting a story into script
a. Please outline the main plot of the story.
b. Then, break it into several sections. In each section, there is a main action.
c. Please depict every main action in your mind and draw it down on a piece of paper.
d. Please arrange the pictures in the order that you would like the have the story told.
e. Then, design the setting, decide on the characters participating in this scene, compose the dialogue according to the main action in each picture.
2. Important steps to trim the script
a. actor/actress(es): ability, temperament, zest, emotion control, etc.
b. the space and equipment for the performance
c. the budget
d. the audience
e. Resources available: school, parents, community, grant or fund, etc.
f. Post-production: memory-keeping, record-keeping, possible publication on internet, up-loading to Facebook, school website, class website, etc.
g. Incorporation into teaching curriculum
3. Please give clear instructions to each scene, make sure the students follow the guideline, and then let go. Student-centered and group-oriented rehearsals will generate fun, sense of togetherness, and promote English learning. The teacher is there to help and to make sure the plot is on the right track.
4. The self-diminishing role of the teacher/director: The teacher is at the performance site to watch over the over-all procedure. Relax and enjoy the play.
P.S. If there is anything that goes wrong during the play, it is OK! A children’s performance would be perfect with some imperfections here and there.
